Job Description

1.1 Job Scope Summary

The Workshop Technician is responsible for carrying out welding, turning, milling, and general fabrication activities to support plant maintenance and operational requirements. The role includes the safe use of workshop machinery and equipment, maintaining workshop standards, supporting maintenance teams, and ensuring all fabrication and repair work is completed efficiently and in accordance with engineering drawings and company safety procedures.


1.2 Job Responsibilities

  • Perform welding, turning, milling, and general fabrication works.

  • Operate workshop machinery and equipment safely and effectively.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

  • Support maintenance activities and repair tasks as required.

  • Carry out housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe workshop environment.

  • Monitor and manage workshop consumable items and materials.

  • Perform routine plant greasing and lubrication activities.

  • Ensure compliance with company HSE policies and procedures.

  • Report equipment defects, hazards, and maintenance requirements.

  • Assist in continuous improvement of workshop operations and maintenance activities.


Desired Candidate Profile

1.3 Educational/Professional Qualifications/Training Certifications

  • Technical qualification or certification in Welding and Turning/Machining.

  • Relevant vocational or trade certification in mechanical or fabrication works preferred.

  • Welding certification is an advantage.

  • Knowledge of workshop safety practices and equipment operation.


1.4 Job Experience & Software Competency

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in workshop fabrication and maintenance activities.

  • Experience in welding, turning, milling, and use of workshop equipment.

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.

  • Familiarity with mechanical maintenance support activities.

  • Basic computer skills are preferred.

  • Technical Expertise & Fabrication Skills: Demonstrates practical knowledge and skill in welding, fabrication, machining, turning, milling, equipment repair, and the safe operation of workshop machinery to produce quality workmanship.

  • Maintenance Support & Equipment Reliability: Supports maintenance activities by providing timely fabrication, repair, modification, and workshop services that contribute to plant reliability and operational efficiency.

  • Documentation, Quality & Attention to Detail: Accurately interprets engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions while ensuring fabrication work meets quality standards and maintaining basic workshop records where required.

  • Planning & Workshop Organization: Plans work efficiently, maintains workshop tools, equipment, consumables, and materials, and ensures the workshop remains organized, clean, and ready to support maintenance activities.

  • Accountability: Demonstrates ownership of assigned work, completes tasks safely and efficiently, and takes responsibility for the quality of workmanship and proper care of workshop equipment.

  • Problem-Solving: Identifies fabrication and maintenance issues, applies practical solutions, and escalates complex problems appropriately to support efficient maintenance execution.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Works collaboratively with Maintenance, Operations, and other departments while communicating effectively to support plant maintenance activities and operational requirements.

  • Adaptability: Responds effectively to changing maintenance priorities, shutdown activities, emergency repairs, and operational requirements while maintaining high standards of safety and workmanship.
